Poor Maduro
Tarih: 28-01-2019 22:05:00 Güncelleme: 28-01-2019 23:37:00

Venezuela has been struggling an economic crisis for a long time. On top of that, in early 2019, a political crisis was added to it. The crisis that started last week with the dissident leader Juan Guaidó declaring himself as president intensified especially with the recognition of Guaidó by the United States. While the countries such as Canada and Brazil support the United States, the countries such as Russia, China, and Turkey still continue to recognize Maduro as president.

In the general elections of 2015, the opposition won a great victory by winning 112 out of 167 seats in the National Assembly. Maduro responded this by disqualifing the National Assembly. He then held the Constituent Assembly elections for a new constitution. In the elections, which the opposition boycotted, Maduro's party won an overwhelming majority, and two assemblies were formed in the country. The response of the National Assembly to this was to disqualify Maduro and not to recognize his presidency in the second term.

Just now, in Venezuela, there is an unprecedented situation. In the country, there are two assemblies and two presidents who declare themselves as legitimate leaders. Some states are recognizing a leader and an assembly; other states are recognizing the others as legitimate.

The attitude of the army in this crisis is quite important. So far, the army seems to support President Maduro. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez, together with 8 military commanders, said in a speech aired live on television that Guaidó staged a "coup". He then added they would be loyal to Maduro. However, although the army's superiors are made up of names loyal to Maduro, it is also stated that the subordinate command ranks are not satisfied with the current situation due to economic problems.

As a separate feature, Maduro is a very good friend with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Maduro visited Turkey in October 2017 and Erdogan paid a return visit to Venezuela in December 2018.

However, it is a well-known fact that the person lives 1 month whom Erdoğan said "mashallah". He previously visited Libya in November 2009, and then there was a mix up. Erdogan made his second visit in September 2011 after Gaddafi’s overthrow, a month later, Gaddafi was lynched.

The same goes for Syria. Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad had made mutual visits. Later, however, Erdogan cooperated with the United States to overthrow Bashar al-Assad whom he said "my brother". Looking at what happened in the past, there is no choice but to call "the poor Maduro" for the future of the Venezuelan leader.
